NHI Sports Massage Team Raises $500 for American Cancer Society
Eight members of National Holistic Institute’s San Jose Campus Sports Massage Team donated their time and talents to raise $500 for the American Cancer Society by providing massage therapy for the participants of the Los Gatos Relay for Life. The NHI students worked from dawn to dusk providing relief for achy lower backs and knotted calves. Relay For Life can be considered the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. They are overnight events and can last up to 24 hours in length. The event in Los Gatos was held at the track at Rolling Meadows Middle School. The NHI Sports Massage Team offered $1/minute massages throughout the day and by 8:00 pm had collected a considerable donation to a great cause.

California Massage Therapist Certification Update
The California Massage Therapy Council has announced the application fee for the new state-wide massage therapist certification will be $150.
This comparably low fee is made even lower by the fact that it covers the first 2 years. Subsequent 2-year renewals are expected to be $125.
By meeting the mandated training requirements, all NHI graduates will need to get state certified, in addition to the fee, is (1) a completed application (not yet available), (2) passport photo, (3) livescan background check ($50-$85), and (4) a sealed NHI transcript delivered directly to the CAMTC.
As CAMTC Treasurer, NHI co-owner Mason Myers worked diligently to keep the application fee as affordable as possible. With his continued participation, we will update you on when applications become available and any other breaking news.
For massage therapists who do not have at least 500 verifiable hours of training, there are 7 other pathways to certification. Please visit www.camtc.org for more information.

NHI on the Record about Massage Therapy Benefits
The Daily Breeze, a Los Angeles South Bay news source, interviewed National Holistic Institute teacher Nancy Gouge for an article published this week about the health benefits of massage therapy.
Researchers think massage may stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which triggers the body to release stress, said Nancy Gouge, an instructor at the National Holistic Institute massage therapy school in Encino. Once relieved of stress, the heart rate slows, blood vessels dilate and normal activity resumes throughout the body.
