Over 1,350 Massages Given at Nike Women’s Marathon

National Holistic Institute teacher Lucas Nevarez coordinated our largest volunteer sports massage event so far this year.  Here is his report from the field.

The NHI Sports Massage Team at the 2009 Nike Women’s Marathon did a fantastic job!  Over 110 students, graduates, and staff from all 4 Northern California campuses came together to provide over 1,350 massages to these exhausted runners.   

It was a success by many measures –

• Hundreds of athletes were grateful to be massaged.
• The students had a great time (as was apparent by the spontaneous dancing that broke out throughout the day).
• The support staff ran like a well-oiled machine.
• Everyone lived… although we did have a couple of runners with hypothermia emergencies.

There were a lot of moving pieces that came together in the best, most professional way possible.  Many thanks to the support provided throughout this process by the various NHI staff members; it would not have been possible were it not for all their work.
