NHI Santa Rosa Student Renae Verbera Receives 2020 CAPPS Bonnie Manley Memorial Scholarship

NHI Santa Rosa student Renae Verbera has been selected as a 2020 CAPPS Bonnie Manley Memorial Scholarship recipient.  Robert Johnson, Executive Director of the California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS), and Dr. Fardad Fateri, President of the CAPPS Board of Directors, congratulate Renae Verbera on this great accomplishment. It is an honor and a privilege to be the winner of such an esteemed Scholarship named after a sector icon. Renae plans to use the funds to continue to support her education and career as a Massage Therapist and Esthetician.

The Bonnie Manley – Memorial Scholarship is for students enrolled in a Cosmetology / Esthetics / Massage Therapy Program or Make-Up Artistry schools. Former CAPPS President, Bonnie Manley’s career in the cosmetology industry spanned four decades.  She was a licensed cosmetologist and educator and owned and operated three cosmetology schools in the San Diego area.  Bonnie served two 3-year terms on the NACCAS Commission from 1991 to 1996 and was elected the first woman Chair of the Board of NACCAS in 1993.  She was strongly committed to maintaining ethical standards and integrity in business and organizational management.  Bonnie Manley unexpectedly passed away in August 2004.

On a personal note, Bonnie was a friend to countless people in this sector.  Bonnie had a direct manner in dealing with people and she pulled no punches, but she was actually always trying to figure out how to help.  She loved life, her students and her staff.  Her dedication to the Beauty Industry was fierce and she fought hard for the things that she believed in even if some of her peers did not agree with her positions.  Bonnie took many people under her wing and provided knowledge and wisdom that helped many entrepreneurs succeed in the postsecondary sector.
