Raised in a Hardworking Mexican American Family

I grew up in a small agricultural town in Northern California with a vibrant Mexican community presence. Raised in a hardworking Mexican American family, I was taught to offer my best effort in all that I committed to. The strong work ethic taught to me from a young age, has brought me to where I am today and for that I am grateful. I carry that value with me, and intend to build upon those values to incorporate a strong rest and wellness ethic. I aim to be of service, and to encourage others that we must rest as hard as we work. I believe by approaching our goals and our own wellness in a holistic way we will end up right where we belong.

A Student of Life, a Teacher of What I Learn Along the Way

2020 was a challenging year for every single living thing on this planet. Yes, AND it is also the year my journey with NHI began.

A little peek into my journey: I have never been a person with “one true calling.” The question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” has been a source of anxiety for me for as long as I can remember. I have always been adventurous and eager explore new skills and places. I liked that about myself; but deep down I thought it was a flaw that I couldn’t pick a lane. It’s not that I didn’t have goals or that I wasn’t a high achiever, but picking just one thing, one place…it felt limiting. Over the years I have come to embrace this quality as a positive. I will remain a student of life, a teacher of what I learn along the way, and I will continue to be of service using my variety of skills.

I Know Who I Want to be and How I Want to Feel

I may never know “what I want be” in the traditional career sense, but I do know who I want to be and how I want to feel. I know how I want others to feel being in my presence or after an interaction with me. I know how I want to to feel in my work environment, and the core values I want to share with my employer.

When I found NHI, I was drawn to the core values and culture listed on the website. I thought…this is a place I can grow. I was not wrong. After getting hired at NHI, it did not take long for me to know I would eventually become a student here. That “eventually” turned into now. If not now…when?! The support I received right away as an employee gave me the confidence in knowing that I could take the leap as a student. I have felt supported, cared for, heard, and seen here at NHI. The care and passion that goes into our individual and collective roles is genuine. That is reflected in the students who grow and find success here and beyond.

“If you are curious, I highly recommend reaching out to connect with NHI staff. They want nothing more than to share NHI’s offerings with you, and support you in taking the next step in your journey.”

I am one year into my time as an employee at NHI and one month into my time as a student here. I am so grateful for all that I have learned already and all that lies ahead. This place is special.
