John McCarthy is an inspiration to us all. Unemployed for two years due to COVID, John set out to answer his calling by completing the Core Massage Therapy Training Program and Advanced Neuromuscular Therapy Program at NHI Sacramento.
Today, John is operating a successful mobile massage therapy business and is also the most requested therapist at Serenity Spa in Folsom, CA!

One of the Best Decisions I’ve Ever Made
Two years ago we all went on lockdown for COVID. I was just about to turn 48 and start massage school after being out of work for two years. Ads for NHI kept popping up on my Instagram feed like the universe was intervening. Probably not the wisest timing, considering there were no people to touch!
However, NHI provided a great curriculum and fantastic mentors and instructors who really allowed me to immerse myself in this new world!
After completing the Core Massage Therapy Training Program, I decided to go to the Advanced Neuromuscular Therapy (ANMT) Program and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I knew that the skills learned in ANMT would make me a real cut above a market FULL of MTs and seriously increase my marketability and fields I qualify to work in.
The ANMT Program gave me a much deeper understanding of anatomy and, of course, trigger points!
Before Graduating I Landed My First Massage Job

Before graduating I landed my first massage job at Serenity Spa Soul Yoga and was almost immediately one of the most requested therapists in the company! I’ve now been there eleven months and am still rocking it. My knowledge and abilities gained through ANMT is one of the biggest reasons I am the most requested male therapist at my spa.
There, we get quite a few doctors and nurses as clients. They have inevitably found their way to me and most of them send their coworkers in to see me. I most love the immediate satisfaction of improving someone’s life in just one session/delivering someone’s “best massage ever!”
I attribute my ability to impress and treat medical professionals to my ANMT learning.
Simultaneously, my private mobile business is still growing and I’m developing a nice niche market, developing the first in what I hope will be a product line and considering opening a brick and mortar clinic this year.
NHI has absolutely been one of the best things to ever happen to me and I’ll be forever grateful to all my instructors!
