Update on Haiti Fundraisers

Haiti Fundraiser - Jan 27, 2010 001

NHI Teacher Nancy Gouge schedules appointments for the Encino Haiti Fundraiser.

A giant THANK YOU to all the National Holistic Institute clients, students and staff who have participated so far in raising money to aid the Haiti Relief efforts!!

With 4 of 5 fundraising clinics complete, NHI has accumulated over $5,700!  And we’re not done yet…

You still have the opportunity to participate in one last fundraising clinic:

Petaluma              Wed, February 10     1:30p, 2:45p, 4:00p

Living in California, we all have some notion of how devastating an earthquake can be, even for a better prepared community.  In the past, NHI has shared the power of positive touch with both the victims and emergency workers of California’s disasters.  While our hands may not reach all the way to Haiti, with your generosity our touch there can still be felt.

Some of the Encino student and graduate volunteers celebrate the evening's success.

NHI Massages for Haiti Disaster

Haitireliefclinic

San Jose became the first National Holistic Institute campus to hold a Haiti Disaster Relief Fundraiser this past Saturday.   With massages booked every available session and donations still coming in, the San Jose Campus has already raised over $1200!

Campus Manager Beth McNeill massaged alongside 10 student therapists, 2 graduates and 3 teachers for donations to go to Haiti victims.  Beth wasn’t looking to massage all three sessions when she came in to lend a hand, “but was excited just like [NHI teachers] Phil, Gena, and Darlene to help out where needed.”

Thanks to the staff and students of National Holistic Institute who are donating their time, skills and supplies so that all the proceeds of our special clinics can go to the people who need them.

Want to participate in one of our Haiti Disaster Relief Fundraiser Clinics?  You still have 4 more opportunities.

Click on your preferred campus below to book an appointment.  If your campus appears unavailable at the moment, please try again at a later date.  Additional massage volunteers will allow more sessions to come available.

NHI Hangs Its Stockings with Care

Socks 00

The Festival of Socks held at the National Holistic Institute San Francisco Campus was a huge success, according to Student Life & Career Coordinator Emily Devenny.

The collection box overflowed with more than 100 pairs of socks which will be delivered to the nearby homeless population to warm their feet and hearts during our cold winter months.

The students had blast! They decorated socks, danced in socks, and paraded their socks to the delight of the judges. We had two winners – Jen Butler took the morning prize for her ninja socks and high kicks. The evening prize went to Jim Schmidt who was wearing [Read more →]

Current TV Visits NHI

Dan Magro of Current TV’s Dan About Town recently visited the National Holistic Institute Encino Campus to find out what it takes to become a massage therapist.

After getting basic chair massage tips from yours truly, Dan joined a class where he received muscular realignment work from student Amber Mathieu and instructor Jan Takeshita.  By the end of his stay, Dan began to realize just how much training goes into making a professional massage treatment so therapeutic.

International Students Thrive at NHI

Ella & Kim - Aug 2009 small

International Students Ella Bleeker & Kim Forgham.

National Holistic Institute may have to change to International Holistic Institute as more and more students from other countries come to us for massage therapy training.

Beth Fisher coordinates the International and National Outreach for both Northern and Southern California NHI campuses.  She ensures that international students have all questions regarding our program answered and provides them with requirements for the M-1 visa.  Beth tracks our international students from admissions to completion.  She really enjoys this challenging yet rewarding process!

Recently, teacher Jen Moore interviewed two of Beth’s international students – Kim Forgham of London, England, and Ella Bleeker of the Netherlands – who both attend NHI Encino.  Here are Kim and Ella’s thoughts on NHI, massage therapy, and living in Los Angeles.

NHI: When searching for schools in the States what were your priorities?

KF: I was looking for a school with a good reputation in teaching massage therapy and where I knew I would receive thorough and high quality training in both Eastern and Western modalities. I knew that I wanted to continue this as my main career following graduation and that the only way to be successful would be to get a top quality education in this field.

EB: The quality of the school. I already have an education in massage therapy and was looking to extend my knowledge. So it had to be a school that could teach me more than I already knew. The curriculum was great at NHI. It was a plus that there are different styles of massage so I could taste a little bit of everything and in the end choose which technique caught my attention most, and I can specialize in that even further. NHI Open Houses

SJ Open House shiatsu

While National Holistic Institute offers class starts year-round, we experience the most enrollment excitement during the back-to-school time of August and September.  So, with great delight, our campuses recently threw open their doors to the many new prospective students with several Open House events.

From San Jose to Encino, prospective students, friends, and family members snacked on cheese & crackers, cookies, and assorted fruit while mixing with members of the faculty, admissions, current students, and graduates.  Attendees visited an anatomy-rich science room; received sports massage treatments; participated in [Read more →]
