NHI Sacramento graduate Cierra Padilla reveals how she established Zen Den, her storefront massage business in Rio Vista, CA.
NHI was Clearly the Best Program
I have 3 children and formerly worked in the mental health field. I still do somewhat, but in a different way, using massage. My Dad taught Reki while I was growing up, and understanding something about energy work made the NHI Eastern segment of the Core program especially interesting to me.
I look up ‘massage schools’ on Google, read reviews, went out and talked to previous graduates and NHI was clearly the best program that I could find out there.
Once I decided on NHI, I quit my job and went to school full time! This allowed me to focus on both school and getting my business to launch immediately upon graduation.
The Core Massage Therapy Program Spoke to Me
The Core Massage Therapy Training program spoke to me, partly based on my Dad teaching Reiki, and was comprehensive enough to give me a good basis to run my massage business, including massage, marketing, bookkeeping, etc.
I rented my massage space just a couple of months after starting the program – this gave me time to develop the space (it needed a lot of work) and have it completely ready by the time graduation came around.

Also, while I was in school I created all the forms that I needed for my business, applied for and received my business license, and started marketing in my community so that by the time I was ready to graduate, I already had many potential clients lined up.
While I was waiting to be able to open up my store front, but after I received my Certification from CAMTC, I did mobile massage in other counties under another business license.
I Have a Long List of Local Clients
When I opened my storefront, Zen Den, in Rio Vista, CA, I had clients booked every day. I found that selling gift certificates over the holidays was an extremely good way to get new prospective clients into my space. Now, I have a long list of local clients and am kept very busy massaging. I love helping people.
I also do mobile massage out of my office and plan to visit Hawaii and try doing chair massage there to see how viable that is as a side job.
